ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a range of welfare, financial assistance, education, housing, and employment-related schemes for 2026 aimed at supporting low-income families, students, farmers, and aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.

According to the officials, these schemes have been developed to increase social security for the people, increase education and health access, and create economic opportunities for millions of citizens.

Financial Aid for Poor Citizens

The first social protection scheme includes the quarterly cash distribution to qualified families via Benazir Income Support Program, especially for women and disabled persons. Apart from that, there is also provision for nutrition for mothers and children. Eligibility of the beneficiaries could be checked through sending their CNIC number to 8171 or visiting registration centers.

Monthly assistance under the program ranges between Rs10,000 and Rs13,500 for eligible households, according to officials.

Youth and Agricultural Loans

The government’s youth-focused financing initiative, the Prime Minister Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme, offers soft loans to young entrepreneurs and farmers for business and agricultural development. Applicants are required to submit a viable business plan during registration.

Interest-Free Microfinance Support

The Akhuwat Foundation continues to provide interest-free loans to small business owners and low-income individuals to help expand livelihoods and promote self-employment. Applications can be submitted through local centers or online portals.

Housing Support Initiative

Under the “Apna Ghar” housing program, the government is offering financial assistance to low- and middle-income families for home construction and ownership. Applications are being processed through partner banks and official channels. Related financing frameworks are coordinated with the State Bank of Pakistan.

Education and Skills Development

Student support programs, including laptop distribution and digital skills training, have been launched to promote access to technology and higher education. The Higher Education Commission oversees student eligibility and institutional registration requirements.

In addition, technical and vocational training programs are being expanded under the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, offering free courses in IT and various professional fields to improve employability.

Health and Social Protection

The government’s health coverage initiative, the Sehat Sahulat Programme, continues to provide free medical treatment to eligible families at selected hospitals across the country.

Additionally, maternal and child nutrition support is being expanded under the Ehsaas Nashonuma initiative, with registration available via SMS to 8171 or through local Ehsaas centers.

Agricultural Support

A new farmer assistance program has also been introduced, providing subsidies on fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural equipment to registered farmers. Applicants must provide land records and valid identification to qualify.

All programs will be meant to alleviate poverty, strengthen the social safety net, and boost inclusive economic development through vulnerable populations, students, and small-scale business owners.
