DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the date of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027. It has been officially confirmed that the tournament will take place from October 4 to November 21 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Australia are the defending champion of the World Cup, and they would come into the competition as clear favourites trying to win another tournament trophy in a tough World Cup.

According to ICC, the enlarged World Cup format would have 14 participating nations. South Africa is scheduled to host a majority of matches in 8 different cities, which include Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, East London, Paarl, and Kimberley.

Out of the 54 matches, 41 matches would be played in South Africa, while the remaining 10 matches and 3 matches would be hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia respectively. This decision would encourage participation in the game throughout the African continent.

The teams would be split into two groups, and the best three from each group would make it to the Super Six round before going on to play the knock-out matches leading up to the final.

The ICC stated that South Africa had much experience in hosting big tournaments, having earlier hosted other events like the ICC T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy. The countries of Zimbabwe and Namibia have also hosted international tournaments such as the Under-19 World Cup.

Other information such as fixture dates and venue arrangements is anticipated to be made available within the coming months.
