ISLAMABAD: Tensions between Iran and Israel appear to be easing after both sides announced a temporary suspension of military operations following a ceasefire appeal by US President Donald Trump.

According to international media reports, Israel has agreed to stop its airstrikes and other military operations against Iran. Nevertheless, there will be no changes regarding its attacks on Hezbollah located in southern Lebanon.

Israeli officials said that according to their understanding, the Americans communicated to Tehran that in case it halted the missile strikes on them, then Israel would stop launching any attacks in return. Following this assurance from the mediation of President Trump, Israel agreed to take a break from its military operations against Iran.

Moreover, another Israeli official confirmed that the move was made according to the demand of President Trump, adding that the attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon will not be paused at all “under any circumstances.” The officials went on to explain that based on the above mentioned development, this particular stage of the Iran-Israel military conflict might be coming to an end.

Meanwhile, PM Netanyahu is reported to have had a conversation with President Trump on Monday.

On the other hand, the central command of the Iranian IRGC, Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, stated that it will temporarily suspend military operations against Israel, saying that its strikes were conducted following Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut referred to as Dahiyeh. The strikes were described by the Iranian media as “painful and effective”.

An official spokesperson from the headquarters, Ibrahim Zolfaghari, stated that Iran will react “decisively” to any future provocation or attacks from Israel.

In reaction to Trump’s call for both Iran and Israel to stop attacking one another, the Iranians stated that they conducted the attacks on Israel as part of their efforts to support the Lebanese civilians and react to Israel’s actions.

Earlier, Iran’s IRGC had declared responsibility for the attacks conducted using ballistic missiles on two important Israeli airfields of Nevatim and Tel Nof.

Iran stated that the previous agreements for de-escalation could not be taken seriously as long as Israel is still engaged in fighting in Lebanon.
