PESHAWAR: Reconciliation attempts with members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who have defected to form a new alliance in the KP Assembly have not met with success, as they are not ready to join talks and will hold a consultation meeting to discuss their further plans.
According to Express News, the defiant group of lawmakers from the ruling party has stuck to its stand. Two senior politicians, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai, have tried to mediate between the two sides, but the dissidents rejected their offer.
It seems that the dissident lawmakers are demanding some guarantees in writing from Chief Minister Sohail Afridi before initiating talks. According to one dissident lawmaker, there is no forward bloc within the party at the moment; even if any emerges, it will have a target set on former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The lawmakers have conveyed their disappointment on account of the policies adopted by the government and emphasized that the leaders of the central party have been aware of what has happened through letters but there is no response yet from the chairman of the party. The opposition group will be meeting today to plan their next steps.
