The budget is expected to maintain high taxes on food and daily necessities. Significant taxes and duties are currently being levied on basic food items and essential commodities.

According to the document, there is a 20 per cent customs duty and a 4 per cent additional duty on white crystalline sugar. Additionally, an 18 per cent sales tax is imposed on vegetable ghee, cooking oil, tea leaves, sugar, dry milk, prepared food, electricity, and gas. A 1 per cent sales tax is also being collected on various types of medicines.

The document states that a 20 per cent customs duty and a 4 per cent additional customs duty are applied to chicken. For eggs, customs duties range from 3 per cent to 16 per cent, with regulatory duties added on top. A 20 per cent regulatory duty is imposed on potatoes, while a 5 per cent customs duty applies to tomatoes and onions.

Moreover, a 10 per cent customs duty is levied on wheat and rice, and a 5 per cent customs duty is applied to wheat flour. For crude soybean oil, a customs duty of Rs. 10,600 per metric ton and an additional 2 per cent customs duty are imposed. Vegetable oil faces a customs duty of Rs. 10,800 per metric ton along with a 10 percent regulatory duty. Lastly, a customs duty of Rs. 8,000 per metric ton and an additional 2 per cent duty are being charged on crude cooking oil.
