WASHINGTON: US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has announced that she will step down from her position on 30 June 2026, bringing an end to her tenure as the head of America’s intelligence community.
Gabbard, who was appointed in February 2025, oversaw the coordination of 18 US intelligence agencies during her time in office. She is widely regarded as a close ally of President Donald Trump.
According to her statement, Gabbard leaves her office because she wishes to spend more time with her husband, who has developed an extremely rare kind of bone cancer.

It is further reported by the US press that the last months of her office saw internal conflicts between herself and other members of the administration regarding foreign policy matters, including strategies concerning Iran. According to some sources, at times Gabbard seemed to differ from the administration’s military and intelligence policies.
Further, according to reports, differences were observed to arise between her and the White House with respect to the direction of the policy.
Gabbard, in the statement, thanked US President Donald Trump for the chance to serve in the position of Director of National Intelligence. Her stepping down is likely to represent a major shift in leadership for the United States’ intelligence organization.
Her resignation will come after serving as the director of the United States’ intelligence organization, whose job it is to coordinate the country’s national security operations.
