PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Department has formally requested the release of wheat stocks from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) for the fiscal year 2025-26.
According to a letter sent by the department, it has sought that PASSCO release the first lot of 25,000 metric tons of wheat to its approved contractors. The letter also revealed that the wheat harvest of 2024 would be provided under this agreement and further mentioned that the government has already paid for the advance amount of wheat.
It was also requested that PASSCO ensure that the supply of wheat continues uninterruptedly between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It is also noteworthy that facilities should be provided to contractors who will transport wheat to different districts.
As per the distribution plan, 4,500 metric tons of wheat has been assigned for Malakand Dargai, 7,500 metric tons for Lower Dir, and 500 metric tons for Upper Dir. Apart from that, 3,500 metric tons of wheat has been allotted for Swat, 5,000 metric tons for Buner, 3,000 metric tons for Mansehra, and 1,000 metric tons for Battagram.
Officials said the wheat would be transported from various centers in Punjab, including Burewala, Khanewal, Okara, Sahiwal, and Multan.
