Technology company Meta has stated that the future lies in privacy. However, the company has recently decided to discontinue support for end-to-end encryption in direct messages on its photo-sharing platform, Instagram.
According to reports from foreign media, this highly secure messaging feature allowed only the sender and recipient to read the messages exchanged. With the removal of this feature, both internet service providers and Meta itself will now have access to users’ private messages.
Meta explained that this change took effect yesterday due to the low usage of end-to-end encryption, which made it impractical to maintain.
A company spokesperson noted that users who still wish to message securely with end-to-end encryption can easily use WhatsApp.
