PESHAWAR: Senior journalist and Azad Digital Bureau Chief Irfan Khan has raised questions over alleged political influence in appointments to public-sector institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the Bank of Khyber.
According to Irfan Khan, provincial public institutions have increasingly come under political influence, with allegations that a politically favoured individual with no prior experience in the banking sector was appointed to a key position at the Bank of Khyber on the recommendation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
He further reported that a State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) investigation team has arrived in Peshawar to look into alleged financial and administrative irregularities at the Bank of Khyber.
The reported investigation could examine the bank’s financial and administrative affairs, including matters surrounding appointments and management practices.
The allegations have raised questions about governance, transparency and political influence in provincial public-sector institutions.
