PESHAWAR: As part of the Safe City Project, panic buttons have been installed at 68 locations across Peshawar to ensure swift police response to public complaints and emergency situations.

According to a statement issued by the office of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, the newly installed devices are equipped with audio and video communication systems and are directly linked to the Safe City headquarters.

The statement added that the panic button system has been introduced to facilitate immediate police assistance in case of emergencies, enabling authorities to respond without delay upon activation.

Provincial Police Chief Zulfiqar Hameed said the initiative aims to enhance public safety in busy and crowded areas, with a particular focus on the protection of students, women, and other citizens.

He further stated that similar facilities will be extended to other cities in the province in the near future.

Police officials said the system provides citizens with a direct communication channel to law enforcement through an integrated audio-visual link with the central Safe City command system.
