Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that good working relationship with their neighbours is Iran top priority and it is joint responsibility coastal countries to make strait of Hormuz safe for global trade.

During his regional visit, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held an important meeting with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Muscat, the capital of Oman, during which the current tense situation in the region, bilateral relations and maritime security were discussed in detail.

Abbas Araqchi clarified in his statement on social media that special attention was paid to ensuring safe transit in the Strait of Hormuz in the talks with Omani authorities. He said that since Iran and Oman are coastal countries of this strategic waterway, it is our common responsibility to make this route safe for all neighbours and global trade.

The meeting discussed the recent crises and war situations in West Asia (Middle East). Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, reiterating Oman’s traditional role as a mediator, said that it is necessary to prioritize negotiations and diplomacy for lasting peace in the region in order to prevent the loss of human lives.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that “neighbouring countries are a priority of our foreign policy.” He appreciated the warm welcome by the Omani leadership and their continued efforts for regional stability.

The meeting comes at a time when tensions between the US, Israel and Iran are at their peak in the region. Before leaving for Oman, Abbas Araqchi had also visited Pakistan, where he presented a “practical framework” for a permanent end to the war. After meeting the Omani Sultan, he will consult with President Vladimir Putin on the situation in the region.

It should be remembered that Oman has long played the role of a bridge between Iran and the West, and the recent visit is also being seen as a link in this series to find a diplomatic solution to the naval blockades and ongoing disputes.
