The awards recognised a diverse range of achievements, including successful counter-terrorism operations, high-profile criminal investigations, and administrative efficiency. Personnel from Bannu, DI Khan, Lakki Marwat, Peshawar, and Lower Chitral, alongside specialised units like the Special Branch, FRP, and Elite Force, were lauded for their roles in neutralising terrorists, solving blind murder cases, and thwarting kidnapping attempts.
The ceremony specifically highlighted the remarkable efforts of former RPO DI Khan Ashfaq Anwar, whose leadership against crime and terrorism was credited with restoring public confidence and strengthening regional peace. His tenure saw improved intelligence sharing and significant upgrades to police infrastructure and logistical capabilities. Additionally, DIG Headquarters Abbas Majeed Marwat was recognised for implementing effective administrative strategies that significantly increased the police welfare fund, ensuring transparent and immediate relief for deserving personnel.
On the operational front, the IGP praised the courage of the Bannu Police for repulsing midnight terrorist attacks and rescuing a hostage policeman, while the Lakki Marwat and DI Khan units were commended for foiling heavy-weapon assaults and preventing a major arms smuggling attempt into Balochistan.
In Peshawar, police successfully arrested a suspect with potential terrorist intent near the American Consulate and solved complex murder cases through scientific investigation. Strategic professionalism was also noted in Lower Chitral, where police successfully traced a missing Australian citizen. Furthermore, investigation teams from districts including Hangu, Charsadda, Mardan, and Bajaur were rewarded for their meticulous work, and the Elite Police Training Centre in Nowshera was recognised for its high training standards.
The department’s success extended beyond law enforcement, as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Sports personnel were honoured for their achievements at the 35th National Games in Karachi, where the martial arts team secured gold and bronze medals and the badminton team earned a bronze. Addressing the gathering, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed emphasised that despite the immense challenges and difficulties of policing in the province, the force continues to demonstrate unparalleled dedication. He noted that law and order have significantly improved over the last 18 months due to these collective efforts and urged all units to continue working as a cohesive team to ensure public safety and maintain the momentum toward a peaceful society.
