Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has announced scheduled maintenance for the repair of a key submarine cable, due to which internet service in the country is likely to be affected.

According to PTCL, the repair work will start from April 14 and will continue till April 20. During this time, users may face reduced internet speed or service interruption, especially in the evening hours. The company says that the support of the international cable consortium is being sought to resolve the fault in the submarine cable, so that the service can be fully restored as soon as possible.

According to experts, submarine cables are an important part of the global internet system, and it is normal for the service to be temporarily affected during their repair.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and other regional providers (like those in Bangladesh) have announced that an international consortium is performing essential repairs to fix a “shunt fault” or other technical issues on the undersea cable. The maintenance is scheduled to take place from April 14 to April 20, 2026.

Submarine cables are the “unseen arteries” of the internet, carrying over 95% of global data. When a fault is detected (often caused by natural shifts or aging equipment like repeaters), it must be fixed to prevent a total cable break.
