Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Iran), said on Sunday that while some progress had been made in the recent negotiations, major differences remained on several key issues, preventing the sides from reaching a final agreement.
In a statement following the talks held in Islamabad, Baghaei thanked the government and people of Pakistan for hosting the discussions, describing the dialogue as an important diplomatic effort involving several sensitive and significant matters.
He said detailed discussions over the past 24 hours covered a range of issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme, war reparations and the removal of sanctions.
The spokesperson added that the talks also addressed ways to ease regional tensions and achieve lasting peace and stability.
Despite progress on some fronts, he noted that disagreements persisted on three major points, which prevented the conclusion of a final agreement.
