PESHAWAR: The terrorist attack on the Regi Model Town police station in Peshawar was successfully averted by the professional response of the police force. The terrorists, who were armed with sniper rifles during the attack on the police station, were unable to cause any damage or casualties because of the prompt action taken by the police force.
The terrorists attacked the police station, but the plan was foiled by the prompt action taken by the police force. Immediately after the attack on the police station, a search operation was initiated to identify the possible hideouts of the terrorists.
The police officers of Regi Model Town police station not only risked their lives but were successful in driving the terrorists back. According to a police spokesperson, the attack on the police station is a reflection of the readiness of the police force of Peshawar to protect the citizens of the area from any terrorist threats.
The spokesperson urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities promptly.
Peshawar police detain over 1000 Afghans in two-day operation
Earlier, the Peshawar police have arrested more than 1,000 Afghan nationals during a two-day crackdown across the provincial capital, officials said, as tensions along the Pak-Afghan border continue to impact security measures in the city.
According to the police statement, 1,044 Afghans were detained during operations carried out in various localities, including factories and markets. Prison vans were deployed to transport detainees, resulting in police stations and central jail facilities becoming overcrowded.
Authorities confirmed that cases have been registered against the arrested individuals under the Foreign Act, and they have been presented before courts. Sources said hundreds of detainees were produced before judicial magistrates over the weekend, leading to an unusual rush at the Judicial Complex in Peshawar. Alongside the accused, a large number of relatives were also present at the courts.
Officials said that individuals found to be legally residing in Pakistan with valid documents or court orders were discharged after hearings, while those staying illegally were sent to jail on judicial remand.
There were also reports that several Pakistanis and other foreigners were detained during the operation. Police maintained that action is being taken strictly in accordance with the law.
Sources added that previously, detained Afghan nationals were shifted to the deportation camp in Nasir Bagh before being repatriated. However, due to the closure of the border, authorities are facing difficulties in processing and deporting illegal residents.
Police stated that the crackdown aims to maintain law and order in the city and prevent any untoward incidents.
