PESHAWAR: It has come to light that 10 computer CPUs were stolen from the computer lab of Government Technical Higher Secondary School, Gulbahar, Peshawar, during the summer vacations.
Following the theft, the school’s teaching staff formally requested an independent and transparent investigation into the matter.
In a written application addressed to the District Education Officer (Male), Peshawar, the teaching staff stated that the computer lab was fully functional on the last working day (June 30). The inventory was rechecked on July 29 in the presence of the stock register supervisor, at which time all equipment was intact.
According to the petition, the 10 CPUs were stolen from the lab later during the summer recess, after which evidence was allegedly collected from the crime scene. An internal inquiry committee set up by the school principal subsequently exonerated the teaching staff, concluding that the incident occurred during the holidays while no teachers were present on campus.
However, the teachers alleged that despite being cleared by the internal inquiry, they are being subjected to interrogation and alleged mental harassment at the Gulbahar Police Station. They emphasized that this mistreatment is disrupting educational activities and tarnishing their professional reputation.
The teachers maintained that the theft is a clear result of a security lapse at the school and urged authorities to hold the actual culprits accountable rather than unfairly implicating the teaching staff.
They urged the DEO Peshawar to order an immediate, free, and transparent inquiry to bring the facts to light and to implement effective security measures to safeguard government property in the future.
The application further claimed that this was not an isolated incident at the school. In the past, several items including a water dispenser, a professional camera, outdoor AC units, and a welding machine have gone missing.
While some items such as a UPS, a shotgun, a submersible pump control box with wiring, and one CPU were later recovered, recurring thefts point to chronic security deficiencies.
