MANSEHRA: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 28-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl were shot dead in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said on Wednesday.
According to police officials, both victims were killed by firing at close range. The accused has been identified as Abid, who is reportedly the brother of the deceased girl, and is alleged to have opened fire on them. Police said the incident appears to be an honour-related crime. The bodies had multiple bullet wounds.
The victims were identified as 28-year-old Gul Nawaz and an 18-year-old girl, whose name has not been officially released. Police said both belonged to the Shamla Hill area of Battagram district and were currently in Mansehra.
After the incident, a police team reached the spot, collected evidence, and shifted the bodies to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra, for medico-legal formalities. Later, after post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to their families. Police have registered an FIR against the accused and have launched a search operation for his arrest. Raids are being conducted to apprehend the suspect who fled after the incident.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second such case in recent months. In August this year, a double murder in the name of honour was also reported from Shikarpur’s Rustam Kacha area in Sindh, where a mosque Imam, Anees Phoor, and a girl, Namal Sabzoi, were shot dead by armed men near village Chaman Sakpur. The Rustam Police found both bodies at the scene, spreading fear and panic in the area. Police said the investigation into the Mansehra incident is underway from all angles, including honour killing.
