ISLAMABAD: The US Department of State has launched a new online tip portal to allow the public to report suspected visa fraud and misuse, according to US authorities.
The development is particularly relevant to Pakistani applicants seeking US visas, as members of the public can now submit information about suspected visa-related fraud through the designated online portal.
The US Department of State said public reports have already helped identify thousands of suspected visa fraud cases. It added that, during President Donald Trump’s second term, authorities have identified thousands of individuals allegedly involved in visa fraud and are continuing efforts to prevent and detect fraudulent activity.
According to US officials, visa fraud may include the submission of forged documents, fabricated travel plans, sham marriages and fictitious job offers.
The department also said that traveling to the United States for the purpose of giving birth may, in certain circumstances, constitute visa fraud.
US authorities said visa fraud can harm American communities, the economy and U.S. workers, while potentially posing risks to national security and public safety.
The Department of State has announced strict enforcement of laws against individuals involved in visa fraud. Those found to be involved may have their visas revoked, and their cases may be referred to relevant authorities for further action.
The department has urged the public to provide information about suspected visa fraud through its designated online reporting portal.
