Technical-level talks between the United States and Iran will be held on Sunday in Burgenstock, Switzerland, under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry said the discussions are a follow-up to the signing of the memorandum and will involve representatives from the United States and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar.
Pakistan said it would continue facilitating the process to support progress toward the implementation of the agreement. Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance said high-level talks with Iran could take place as early as Sunday.
“We’ll plan the talks when the principals from the Iranian government, also the Qatari and the Pakistani governments, arrive,” Vance told media representatives, adding that the meeting could take place “as soon as tomorrow.”
Iran also confirmed that a delegation would travel to Switzerland to follow up on the implementation of commitments made under the agreement. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the delegation would seek clarification on how the other side intends to fulfill its obligations.
“In Switzerland, we are set to press for the implementation of the other side’s commitments and determine how they intend to fulfill their obligations,” Baghaei said. “If part of the other side’s commitments is not implemented, the entire understanding will face difficulties,” he said, adding that Washington must take the necessary measures “as soon as possible or risk jeopardizing the agreement.”
“We did not sign the commitment for it not to be implemented; our approach is commitment for commitment,” Baghaei said. He warned that Tehran would take “the necessary measures” if the other side fails to fulfill its obligations.
The discussions will bring together representatives of the United States and Iran, alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement on Saturday. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also arrived in Tehran today to engage in discussions with the Iranian counterparts regarding Us-Iran talks.
The meeting follows the signing of the Islamabad MoU, though the FO did not disclose further details about the agreement or the specific agenda for the upcoming technical discussions.
Pakistan said it would continue to support the process in its role as mediator, with the aim of carrying forward the understandings reached under the memorandum.
The planned talks in Switzerland mark the next stage of engagement after the agreement was signed in Islamabad. They are expected to focus on technical aspects of the commitments and arrangements agreed by the parties, with Pakistan and Qatar continuing to serve as facilitators.
