PESHAWAR: Residents of Peshawar blocked University Road at Tahkal on Monday in protest against prolonged and unscheduled electricity load shedding in the city.
Protesters gathered at the Tahkal section of University Road and shut down traffic, causing severe difficulties for commuters. “There is no electricity at night or during the day,” protesters said while blocking the road.
Due to the road closure, citizens faced major problems with traffic jams reported on alternate routes. The demonstration comes amid growing public frustration over persistent power outages across Peshawar, with residents demanding immediate relief and a clear schedule for electricity supply.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the protest or steps to restore normal power supply. This is not the first time. Before this similar protests took place in Hayatabad, Board Bazaar, and Warsak Road over power cuts and inflated bills. Most protests ended after PESCO officials met protesters and promised improved schedules.
