WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has welcomed the Makkah mutual defence pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan, congratulating the leadership of the three countries on the agreement.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he was pleased to see Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan recently sign the Makkah mutual defence pact.
The US president described the agreement as a sign that the Middle East was becoming more united and that countries would eventually be able to defend themselves more effectively.
Trump congratulated the leadership of all three countries, calling the agreement a big, bold and important first step.
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye signed the mutual defence agreement in Makkah recently, under which an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be considered an attack against all three.
The agreement seeks to strengthen their collective defence capabilities against potential aggression and deepen defence cooperation among the three countries.
Concluding his remarks, Trump reiterated that the development represented a “big, bold and important first step,” adding “Wow” to his statement.
