ANKARA: US President Donald Trump has formally announced the end of the ceasefire understanding with Iran, using harsh language against the Iranian leadership and saying that Tehran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
Speaking to the media in Ankara, President Trump compared Iran to cancer and claimed that there were serious problems within the Iranian leadership.
“The deal is over,” Trump said, adding that he was no longer interested in further negotiations with Iran. He said that if his officials continued discussions with Tehran, the matter would eventually have to come back to him.
Trump further stated that Iran’s people were dangerous and reiterated that Tehran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
The US president also criticized NATO, saying he was not satisfied with the alliance’s response and claiming that it had not provided support against Iran.
The development comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military actions and diplomatic disputes. The United States has also moved to revoke a license allowing Iranian oil sales, according to reports.
The latest statements mark a sharp shift in tone from Trump’s earlier remarks regarding Iranian leadership and negotiations
