WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has declared that a 25% tariffs would be imposed on all goods moving between the U.S. and the countries of the world that engage in trade with Iran.

In another of his social media statements, the President warned that the new action could not be revoked and would be put into effect instantly. He further explained that the nations that are performing legal or illegal trading activities with Iran will be the ones that have to pay the 25% tariff on all their dealings with the U.S.

“This command is not open for discussion; its execution will be prompt. Any state that experiences an exchange with Iran will cough up 25% on that trade with the United States,” said Trump.

This declaration has been made at the same time when the government in Iran faces severe dissent from within the country. Reports are even claiming that casualties from the riots have exceeded 490, and they have been going on for more than two weeks. U.S. human rights organizations have denounced the Iranian regime’s response as brutal and undemocratic.

Earlier on, Trump had already made his position very clear towards the Iranian government, saying they would have to face serious repercussions for the shooting of the protestors. The day before Trump’s declaration, the military option was suggested as a possibility considering if Iran persisted in doing this kind of behaviour.

Through this action, the U.S. president is merely pressuring Iran further by imposing stricter sanctions, which has become a huge conflict of influence in politics over the region.

White House: Trump will take military action against Iran if required

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt has revealed that U. S. President Donald Trump will not hesitate to use military force against Iran if that becomes necessary.

She spoke to Fox News and asserted that the President, in the past, has always been in favour of diplomacy but he will not shy away from using force if he feels it is necessary. Furthermore, she said that the Iranian regime is quite familiar with this position.

When the Press Secretary was asked about the future moves, she replied that only President Trump knows what he will do next.

Levitt also drew attention to the mixed signals coming from the Iranian government and remarked that while the latter is openly presenting one view, it is, in fact, sending different messages to the U.S. and the Trump administration on the down low.

On the other hand, the White House representative did not elaborate on the specifics of these confidential exchanges.
