ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis planning to travel abroad on an “Azad Visa” have been advised to understand the potential legal and financial risks before making the journey.
According to the Migrant Resource Centre, travelling under the name of an “Azad Visa” can expose individuals to serious risks, including legal complications, arrest, deportation, financial losses, exploitation and illegal employment.
Such arrangements may also leave migrants without access to Pakistan’s formal migrant protection system and other legal rights and safeguards.
The centre said workers travelling on an Azad Visa could face difficulties in securing legal protection for their salaries and other employment rights. The risk of fraud and financial loss may also increase.
Migrants may also be vulnerable to exploitation by employers or agents and could end up working illegally. This may result in fines, legal action and deportation.
The Migrant Resource Centre urged people to verify all visa and employment-related details before travelling abroad. This includes confirming the validity of the visa, employment offer, contract and all relevant legal requirements.
