PESHAWAR: The Tourism and Hotel Management Department established in 2014 at the University of Peshawar, is playing an important role in adapting the youth to the modern requirements in the tourism and hospitality sector not only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also across the country.
This department is rapidly gaining fame due to its quality education, practical training and market-based courses.
According to the report, the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management provides opportunities in hotels, resorts, airlines, travel agencies, and event management companies to the youth along with courses, so that students can acquire professional skills before stepping into the practical field.
The salient features of the department include Modern curriculum that is designed according to international standards, Labs and workshops where students gain practical experience, Special seminars and training sessions related to tourism promotion, Lectures by local and foreign experts and Study tours of tourist destinations
According to the faculty, the tourism sector in Pakistan is growing rapidly and in the coming years the need for trained youth in hospitality, hotel industry and tour operations will increase. Keeping this need in mind, the department is training dozens of students every year and sending them to the market.
Students says that this sector has not only created better employment opportunities for them but also provided them with awareness about the trends of the global tourism industry. Many graduates are serving in the country’s hotel industry, airlines and government tourism organizations.
According to experts, if more support is provided at the government level, programs like Tourism and Hotel Management can become the backbone of the country’s economy and tourism development. Given the immense tourism opportunities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this department has the potential to open numerous doors of employment for the youth of the province in the coming time.
