ISLAMABAD: Students and government employees across Pakistan may enjoy three consecutive holidays in November as Iqbal Day falls on Monday, November 9, following the regular weekend holidays.

According to the reported holiday schedule, the public holiday will be observed on November 9 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan and one of the leading intellectual figures associated with the Pakistan Movement.

With Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, already designated as weekend holidays for many institutions, government employees could get three consecutive days off from November 7 to November 9.

Educational institutions are also expected to observe holidays during the same period, potentially giving students a three-day break.

Iqbal Day to Be Observed on November 9

Iqbal Day is observed annually on November 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.

Known as the Poet of the East, Iqbal played an influential role in shaping the political and intellectual thinking of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent through his poetry, philosophy and political vision.

His historic Allahabad Address of 1930 is widely regarded as an important milestone in the development of the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent, which later became Pakistan.

Students and Employees May Get a Long Weekend

If the reported schedule is confirmed, students and employees whose institutions follow the Saturday-Sunday weekend will receive three consecutive days off.

The holiday arrangement could provide families with an opportunity to spend time together and allow students a short break from academic activities.

However, the final holiday schedule and its applicability to individual institutions should be confirmed through official government notifications.
