BARA: An awareness camp was organized in Bara Bazaar, Khyber District, following concerns over the reported abolition of the tribal students’ quota in colleges and universities across Pakistan.
The camp brought together students, social activists, tribal elders, and members of civil society, who expressed serious concerns about the future of students from the merged tribal districts. Participants stated that the quota was introduced to help students affected by decades of conflict, displacement, and limited access to educational opportunities. They argued that removing the quota would further reduce their chances of pursuing higher education.
Speakers at the camp urged the federal and provincial governments to retain the quota and introduce additional educational support, including scholarships and development initiatives, to ensure equal opportunities for tribal youth.
Participants also voiced disappointment that, despite Bara being part of the Chief Minister’s constituency, no government representative or elected public official had visited the camp or responded to their concerns.
The organizers emphasized that the campaign is aimed solely at protecting the educational rights of tribal students and raising public awareness. They warned that if their concerns remain unaddressed, they will announce their future course of action after consulting with stakeholders.
