Heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms have been lashing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas.
The worst-hit districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Upper Kohistan, Tank, Tor Ghar, Kurram, and North and South Waziristan.
Earlier in the month, 12 people died in 24 hours, while 22 were killed and 23 injured since July 19. In the first monsoon spell, 9 people were killed and 23 injured over 48 hours.
PDMA and NDMA have advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and tourist spots, and to stay away from rivers, streams and vulnerable mountain areas. The emergency helpline 1700 has been activated for weather updates and rescue. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted the current spell to last till July 23, with risks of flash floods, landslides and urban flooding.
