PESHAWAR: Contrary to claims of gathering hundreds of thousands and millions of people for political protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, scenes have emerged showing not a single worker present outside Sohail Afridi’s ancestral home for a protest.

The gap between tall claims of protest politics and ground reality has raised questions about PTI’s public popularity and practical participation of its workers.

The absence of workers for protest around Sohail Afridi’s ancestral home is being considered significant in political circles. The PTI leadership has been claiming large gatherings and public support, however, the absence of workers for protest in the native area of its own leader presents a picture contrary to those claims.

This situation is being described as a political message for the party leadership that public support is not measured only by slogans and big claims but also by practical participation and public response.

According to political observers, if a party claims to bring millions of people onto the streets, its real test is the presence of workers and public participation at the time of protest. The scenes of absence of workers outside Sohail Afridi’s ancestral home for protest have also triggered debate on the reality of these claims.

This situation is also important for PTI in the sense that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has long been the central hub of its politics. In such a situation, the participation of workers during protest activities in the native areas of party leaders is considered important in assessing political support.

However, based on these scenes of absence of workers, a final conclusion cannot be drawn about PTI’s support throughout the province. The full assessment of the situation can only be made after verification of the location, time and other circumstances of the protest.
