Pakistani cricket legend Wasim Akram is alive and well after his wife, Shaneira Akram, shut down false social media rumours claiming that he had died of a heart attack.
The fake claims spread online through AI-generated videos and misleading social media posts, leaving many fans worried about the former fast bowler’s health.
To set the record straight, Shaneira shared a new video of Wasim Akram working out at the gym. In the video, he can be seen doing different exercises before looking at the camera and smiling, showing that he is healthy.
Sharing the clip, Shaneira said she posted it in response to the “fake news and AI videos” circulating on social media. “As you can see, he is in the gym and seems OK,” she wrote.
Her post quickly reassured fans that the cricket legend was safe and in good health. The incident has once again highlighted the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create realistic fake videos and spread false information about well-known personalities.
Known as the “Sultan of Swing,” Wasim Akram is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history. He captained Pakistan, played a key role in the country’s 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, and later became a respected cricket coach and commentator. He remains one of Pakistan’s most admired sporting icons.
