CHARSADDA: Former Pakistan cricket team captain and renowned all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi visited Peshawar today, where he visited the house of prominent religious scholar and Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees, who was martyred in a terrorist incident a few days ago, and met his bereaved family.
Shahid Afridi met with Maulana Anas, son of martyr Sheikh Idrees, and other family members. On this occasion, he expressed deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of Sheikh Idrees and said that the loss of a scholar and religious figure like Sheikh Idrees is a great tragedy not only for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also for the entire country and the Muslim Ummah.
During the meeting, Shahid Afridi paid tribute to Sheikh Idrees’ religious and scholarly services in eloquent words. “Sheikh Idrees had dedicated his entire life to popularizing the teachings of the Quran and Hadith. He was a bright star of knowledge and piety whose absence will always be felt.” Afridi said.
Shahid Afridi offered special prayers for the elevation of the deceased’s ranks and prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the martyr a high place in Paradise and grant the bereaved family the patience to bear this shock. He also assured the bereaved family of his full support and sympathy.
It should be noted that prominent religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees was targeted by unknown motorcycle riders on May 5, 2026, in Charsadda near Peshawar district, while he was going to a seminary. The banned organization ISIS (IS-K) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sheikh Idrees was a former member of the provincial assembly and a prominent leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F). Condolences are being paid by political and social figures across the country on his death.
