Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of renowned religious scholar, Sheikh-ul-Hadith and former member of the provincial assembly JUI leader Maulana Muhammad Idrees.
A statement issued on Shahid Afridi’s official Facebook page said that his heart is deeply saddened by the news of Maulana Idrees’ martyrdom in a cowardly assassination attack. He prayed that Allah Almighty accepts the martyrdom of the deceased, elevates his ranks, grants him a high position in Paradise and grants patience to his family. Amen.
In his statement, Shahid Afridi added that “this star of knowledge and piety will always be remembered” and hoped that the elements involved in this tragic incident will soon be brought to justice.
On the other hand, a tragic incident took place on Tuesday morning in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda, where unidentified armed men opened fire and martyred Maulana Muhammad Idrees. He was on his way to the seminary from his home when his vehicle was attacked from behind.
Two policemen in the vehicle were also injured in the attack, while Maulana Idrees was martyred on the spot. An FIR has been registered in the CTD Mardan police station and investigations are underway.
