The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather outlook for various parts of the country from August 30 to September 4, forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds and rain in several areas, with isolated spells of heavy rainfall also possible.
According to the PMD, different parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to receive thunderstorms, gusty winds and rain during the period.
In Punjab, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is likely in several districts, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha and Gujrat. Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara and adjoining areas may also receive rain.
Most parts of Punjab are expected to remain hot and humid, with daytime temperatures likely to rise.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thunderstorms, gusty winds and rain are expected in various areas, while isolated locations may receive heavy rainfall. Rain is forecast in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner and Mansehra, as well as Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram and Waziristan.
Various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also likely to experience thunderstorms, strong winds and rain, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore and adjoining areas. In Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Poonch, Bagh, Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber may receive rain.
The two regions are expected to remain hot and humid, with daytime temperatures likely to increase.
Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid, with a rise in daytime temperatures.
In view of the expected weather conditions, the NDMA has alerted all relevant authorities and directed them to ensure necessary precautionary measures. The authority has also advised travellers and tourists to check weather conditions before travelling and use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application for guidance.
The NDMA said people could contact 911 for assistance in case of a potential flood situation.
