ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis are set to enjoy a three-day weekend next month as the country’s Independence Day holiday falls on a Friday, providing an extended break for millions across the country.

The upcoming Independence Day holiday on August 14 will be followed by the usual weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday, giving the people three successive holidays.

Long weekends usually mean an increase in the number of traveling people in the country who go on trips and participate in various recreational activities.

The Independence Day is celebrated each year as the day when Pakistan achieved its independence in 1947. The holiday is associated with hoisting flags, special events, programs, and rallies all over the country.

The government offices, public places, markets and houses are usually decorated with national flags, coloured in green and white, and other elements of decoration to mark the celebration of the Independence Day holiday.

The long weekend will probably give a boost to the tourism sector and recreational activities among travellers.
