ISLAMABAD: Internet services across parts of Pakistan have been affected due to a fault in the SMW5 submarine cable system, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said.

According to PTA, some users are experiencing intermittent issues with internet speed and connectivity due to a technical fault in the international undersea cable network.

The authority said that teams from the Trans World Associates (TWA) and the SMW5 consortium have been mobilized to identify and address the cause of the disruption.

PTA further stated that internet traffic has been shifted to alternative international links to maintain continuity of services where possible.

Efforts are underway to restore normal internet services at the earliest, while coordination with relevant technical partners continues, the regulator added.

PTA said that updates regarding the expected restoration timeline of the SMW5 cable will be shared once confirmed by the concerned authorities.
