PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Sher Ali Arbab has proposed allocating 40 kanals of land at the Grain Godown for construction of a new building for Nasirullah Babar Hospital, instead of spending heavily on repairing the existing structure.
In a letter addressed to the health secretary, MNA Arbab said the hospital handles around 97,000 outpatient visits every month, with between 3,500 and 4,000 patients visiting the facility daily.
He said the hospital has 228 sanctioned beds, of which only 168 are currently functional. According to the MNA, the facility also lacks CT scan and MRI services.
MNA Arbab said the existing hospital building was constructed in the 1970s primarily for storing medicines and was not originally designed according to hospital structural standards.
He also pointed out that the ground level of the building is around three feet below the adjoining road and approximately one foot below the bed of the nearby drain. Poor drainage has resulted in rainwater and sewage accumulating in the basement, he added.
The MNA proposed that instead of spending around Rs500 million on repairing the existing building, land should be allocated for construction of a new hospital building.
He suggested that the 40-kanal Grain Godown land could be used for the proposed new facility.
