Property worth millions of rupees was reduced to ashes when a fire in the Chitral Ayun petrol pump broke out at midnight on Friday.
The fire damaged four vehicles, six shops, pump building, when the pump staff was asleep. Timely action by NHA staff and a water tanker, Rescue 1122 also responded quickly. Habib Bank, sewing machine, and nearby houses were saved from destruction due to timely action. Fire broke out in the pump counter due to an electrical short circuit.
The NHA driver who was going from work saw fire breaking out in the pump building and woke up the pump staff by making noise. An attempt was made to extinguish the fire by breaking the counter glass, but the fire engulfed the entire area immediately.
According to the pump owner, three vehicles and a motorcycle were burnt, while the ones in the backyard of the pump, six shops of Haji Bahadur Ali, were also damaged. At the time of the fire, NHA staff, who live nearby, helped extinguish the fire with their water tanker, while Rescue 1122 also arrived from Chitral on time.
As a result of the rescue activities of Ayun police, locals, Rescue 1122, and NHA, nearby residential houses, Habib Bank, and shops were saved from the fire. The affected pump owner told the media that the fire caused a loss of a million however, miraculously, the oil stock of the petrol pump remained safe, otherwise, there was a fear of a huge disaster.
