CHITRAL: Chitral’s internationally renowned Kalash Valley, which attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists each year for its breathtaking landscapes, unique culture and centuries-old traditions, continues to face accessibility challenges due to poor road infrastructure.
According to local residents and visitors, several stretches of the road leading to the valley remain damaged and unpaved, making travel difficult and time-consuming.
They said the condition of the route discourages tourists and affects the region’s tourism potential.
Residents added that the situation worsens during the rainy season, when muddy and damaged sections make the journey more hazardous.
In dry weather, excessive dust further adds to the inconvenience for commuters and tourists.
Despite the valley’s international recognition as one of Pakistan’s premier tourist destinations, locals say it still lacks the basic transport infrastructure needed to support sustainable tourism.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) is currently carrying out work on the road project, but construction has yet to be completed.
Residents and tourism stakeholders have urged the authorities to expedite the project, saying improved road connectivity is essential for ensuring safe and convenient access to the valley.
They stressed that promoting tourism requires more than policy announcements, emphasizing that quality roads, reliable transport and other basic infrastructure are critical to attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Locals have called on the relevant authorities to complete the Bamborat Road project at the earliest, saying it would significantly improve access to the scenic valley and help boost tourism and the local economy.
