PESHAWAR (Kamran Ali Shah): A petition has been filed in the Election Tribunal challenging the Senate by-election on the seat previously held by PTI leader Murad Saeed. The legal challenge, moved by PML-N MPA Jalal Khan through Barrister Yasin Raza, argues that the announced by-election is legally untenable under the current circumstances.
The petitioner’s primary stance is that Murad Saeed never formally took his oath of office or assumed charge as a Senator. The petition contends that since the seat was never officially occupied by Saeed, it cannot be declared “vacant” in a manner that necessitates a by-election. Consequently, the tribunal has been requested to stay the proceedings and postpone the scheduled electoral process.
While the first hearing of the case was slated for today, it was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The Election Tribunal has now formally scheduled the case for hearing tomorrow, where the arguments regarding the legal status of the seat and the validity of the Election Commission’s announcement will be examined.
