ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
It warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly regions. According to the PMD, rain is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and northeastern Balochistan.
The PMD has also warned of a high risk of landslides in the hilly districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, as well as Murree, Galiyat and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Moreover, it added that hill torrents and local streams in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Dera Ghazi Khan may experience flash flooding due to heavy rainfall.
In Punjab, heavy rain is expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara and Bahawalnagar, where water accumulation in low-lying areas is also possible.
In Sindh, it warned that low-lying areas in districts including Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot in Sindh could face urban flooding due to heavy rainfall.
PMD forecast widespread rain accompanied by strong winds, and thunderstorms is expected in Gilgit Baltistan and northeastern Balochistan is likely to receive rain at isolated places.
