PESHAWAR: Awai National Party Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has strongly criticised the sharp increase in fees by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar, calling it unjustified and a serious burden on students.

He said fee increases of up to 100 per cent in a single year, including charges for admissions, migration, re-appearing in examinations and re-totaling, were difficult to justify.

Aimal Wali Khan said the increase was particularly concerning amid complaints about the board’s performance and examination results. He alleged that the Peshawar Board was being turned into a revenue-generating institution instead of focusing on facilitating students.

The ANP leader warned that higher fees could place additional financial pressure on students from low-income families and create hurdles in continuing their education.

He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the increased fees and called for a transparent audit of the board’s financial affairs and fee-setting mechanism.

He also urged the authorities to establish an independent system for addressing students’ complaints regarding examination results, failures and re-totaling.
