A new study by Harvard University has revealed that people with optimistic thinking have a relatively lower risk of dementia, a disease of memory impairment.
Optimism and the risk of dementia were examined in this study from 2006 to 2020. The researchers examined their mental and psychological state every 4 years. According to the results, the risk of dementia was found to be reduced by 15% in more optimistic people.
According to experts, optimism is not just the name of positive thinking, but also the feeling that a person has some control over their life. On the contrary, disappointment, loneliness, and persistent negative thoughts can cause stress, depression, and memory loss.
Hong Kong psychologist Dr. Adrian Wong says that health, financial problems, or loss of loved ones in old age can make a person feel powerless. which increases disappointment, in such a situation, a person needs to focus on the things that he can improve.’
The study also showed that optimistic people handle stress better, exercise, eat well, and sleep better. People with this personality have strong social relationships, which are beneficial for mental health. According to experts, optimism is not an innate ability but can be adopted; the habit of gratitude, participation in social activities, and interaction with people promote positive thinking.
