BANNU: 11-point agreement has been reached between the peace committee and the police department to maintain peace and combat terrorism in Bannu.
Under the agreement, members of the peace committee will be required to fully cooperate with the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in efforts against terrorism. The police and the peace committee will also work jointly to maintain law and order in the district.
The agreement has been signed by PTI Members of the National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat and Naseem Ali Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member Pakhtun Yar, and Peace Committee Chairman Hazratullah.
Under the agreement, peace committee members will immediately share information about suspicious activities and suspected terrorists with the police and extend full cooperation to law enforcement agencies.
Committee members have also been barred from taking the law into their own hands, engaging in illegal activities or resisting police action in any manner.
The police have assured the committee members of measures to protect their lives and property. The committee will also cooperate with the police in promoting peace and maintaining law and order among the public.
The two sides agreed that any disputes between the police and the peace committee would be resolved through dialogue. The agreement also provides for steps to address legitimate concerns and issues faced by committee members.
Both the police and the peace committee expressed a joint commitment to restoring peace and eliminating terrorism in Bannu.
