KURRAM: In a significant development for regional connectivity, the long-dormant Parachinar Airport in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been restored to operational status following extensive upgrades by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and the Pakistan Airports Authority.
To mark the transition into its operational phase, Pakistan Army Aviation successfully conducted a series of landing and take-off trials on April 26, 2026. These trials, totalling six successful manoeuvres, were designed to rigorously evaluate the quality of the recent construction, runway functionality, and overall operational readiness across various scenarios.
Following the exercises, the runways were declared to be of professional quality and in full compliance with high safety standards. The renovation of this facility represents a major milestone in restoring air transport to the region, and its reactivation is expected to bolster emergency response capabilities, facilitate economic activities, and significantly improve connectivity for the people of Kurram and the surrounding areas.
