ISLAMABAD: University students across Pakistan will have new opportunities to gain professional experience in 2026 as the Institute of Rural Management (IRM) and the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) have launched separate internship programmes aimed at enhancing practical skills, research exposure and workplace learning.

The initiatives are designed to bridge the gap between academic education and professional careers by offering students hands-on training in real-world environments.

The Institute of Rural Management has unveiled its Summer Internship Programme 2026 for students interested in understanding Pakistan’s development sector and improving their professional capabilities.

According to programme details, the internship will combine theoretical learning with practical field experience. Participants will work in a professional setting where they will develop communication skills, gain exposure to office operations and take part in field-based activities.

The programme is open to university and college students enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, particularly those studying business administration, environmental sciences, social sciences and related disciplines. Applicants are also expected to possess strong interpersonal communication abilities and basic computer skills.

The six-week internship will begin with an orientation session, followed by mentorship from experienced professionals. Interns will participate in field visits, analytical reporting, research activities and office assignments involving documentation, collaboration and professional communication.

The last date to apply for the programme is May 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), operating under the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, has also announced its internship programme for July-August 2026.

The eight-week full-time internship will be conducted on-site in Islamabad and is aimed at developing future economists and public policy professionals.

Selected interns will be placed in research centers, technical departments and ongoing research projects, where they will gain direct exposure to policy analysis and development-related work.

Students interested in either programme have been advised to review eligibility criteria carefully, prepare the required academic documents and submit applications before the respective deadlines.

With summer 2026 approaching, both internship programmes are expected to provide valuable career-building opportunities for students seeking practical experience alongside academic learning.
