The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has advised citizens that they can renew their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) before their expiry dates without waiting for the cards to expire.
According to NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali, citizens can apply for renewal at any time before their identity cards expire, including when one or two months remain before the expiry date.
He clarified that the card issued after renewal will be treated as a new identity card, carrying an updated expiry date.
The spokesperson also advised citizens to update their digital identity cards in the Pak ID mobile application after receiving their renewed CNICs.
To do so, users should open the Pak ID app and tap on their digital identity card again. The updated card, featuring the new expiry date, will then be available to download on their mobile phones.
Ali further explained that refreshing or updating the application would ensure that the digital identity card reflects the latest details of the renewed CNIC.
The guidance aims to help citizens keep their physical and digital identity documents up to date and avoid complications associated with expired identification.
