Consumers in various parts of Pakistan are facing difficulties as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have surged significantly, with rates reaching Rs600 per kilogram in Lahore and a domestic cylinder selling for as much as Rs7,200.

According to available reports, LPG prices have risen sharply in Lahore and other areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the fuel being sold at between Rs500 and Rs600 per kilogram in some locations. The increase has placed an additional financial burden on households that rely on LPG for cooking and other domestic needs.

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has set the official LPG price at Rs279 per kilogram for October. The notified price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic cylinder is approximately Rs3,350.

The substantial gap between the official rates and market prices has raised concerns among consumers, who say the sale of LPG at excessively high prices is increasing their household expenses.

Citizens have urged the relevant authorities to take effective measures to ensure that LPG is sold at government-notified rates and to take action against those charging consumers above the official prices.
