ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has termed the notification circulating on social media as completely fake and misleading, which claimed that the tax imposed on mobile devices can now be paid in instalments.
The authority has categorically clarified that no such notification has been issued by it, so the public should not believe such unverified information at all.
According to a PTA spokesperson, the determination, implementation and collection of taxes and duties on mobile devices falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). PTA has no connection whatsoever with the process of determination, declaration or collection of these taxes, therefore the news spread regarding instalments is completely baseless.
Clarifying the nature of the notification, the authority said that its role is limited to managing the registration and compliance of mobile phones through the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). The only public directive issued by the PTA in the recent past was related to the scheduled maintenance of the ‘DIRBS’, during which some services may remain temporarily suspended.
The PTA has strongly advised citizens to refrain from sharing or acting on any such unverified claims circulating on social media.
The authority has urged the public to rely only on authentic information obtained from official sources and websites of the PTA and FBR instead of being part of any kind of rumour.
