ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have approved a new leave policy for officers and personnel, with the revised rules taking immediate effect across all departments.

According to a police spokesperson, Inspector General of Islamabad Police has approved the policy, which delegates leave approval powers to officers at different levels of the department.

Under the new rules, station house officers (SHOs) can approve three days of casual leave for constables and head constables, while deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) are authorised to grant up to five days. The policy also defines the leave approval powers of senior superintendents of police (SSPs), deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and director generals (DGs).

The policy provides 10 days of leave for male personnel on the occasion of marriage, while female personnel will be eligible for one month of leave. Police employees may also receive 45 days of leave for Hajj and 21 days for Umrah or religious pilgrimages.

The rules further allow 20 days of leave for candidates appearing in CSS and PCS examinations and 15 days for interviews.

All police officers and personnel will be entitled to one day off per week. Those posted in remote districts may also avail themselves of seven or 14 days of leave after completing the prescribed period of duty.

To maintain operational strength, the policy limits the number of personnel allowed to take casual leave at any one time to 10 percent of the workforce. A separate limit of three percent has been set for personnel seeking ex-Pakistan leave.

The notification clarifies that leave cannot be claimed as a matter of right under police rules. Requests may be refused or approved leave cancelled in accordance with departmental requirements.
