MARDAN: Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) has initiated practical measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of medicines to patients and repair deteriorating roads within the hospital premises.

The hospital administration has launched steps to improve administrative affairs and complete long-pending projects. A special committee has been formed to monitor the supply of medicines, while tenders have been issued for the reconstruction and repair of damaged roads and pathways across the hospital.

According to the measures announced, the special committee will directly oversee the process to ensure the continuous availability of medicines for patients. Meanwhile, the road repair and reconstruction work aims to facilitate the movement of patients, attendants and other visitors within the hospital premises.

The initiatives are being viewed as a potential relief for the public, while also renewing questions about the previous performance of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the health sector.

Despite claims of a healthcare revolution and the expansion of the Sehat Card programme during PTI’s tenure, Mardan Medical Complex, a major healthcare facility in the district, continued to face challenges, including medicine shortages and deteriorating roads, according to the critical account provided.

The hospital’s internal roads remained in poor condition, while patients reportedly faced difficulties obtaining essential medicines.

Critics argue that the previous provincial government’s priorities were often focused on political activities, protests and demands for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan rather than addressing fundamental healthcare issues. These assertions reflect a critical political assessment and would require independent verification.

The latest initiatives have also prompted questions about why such administrative measures, including the formation of a dedicated committee for medicine supplies and the issuance of road repair tenders, were not implemented earlier to address the longstanding problems.

The developments have brought renewed attention to the gap between PTI’s claims of transforming the healthcare system and the challenges reportedly faced by patients at the hospital.

The ongoing measures at Mardan Medical Complex are being viewed as a step towards addressing basic healthcare infrastructure and medicine availability. Their actual impact will depend on the timely completion of repair work and the effectiveness of efforts to maintain an uninterrupted supply of medicines.
